We have great respect for the world’s oceans and we while we sail an increasing number of guests across the globe, we continuously aim to reduce our impact on the environment. Through the use of modern technologies and environmentally friendly materials, we are effectively lowering the environmental impact of our cruises. From using the best quality fuel available in ports, to efficiency-enhancing technology, to our advanced onboard recycling systems, we strongly believe that leadership comes with increased responsibility towards the environment.
Therefore, we are continuously working to reduce our impact on board and ashore, and optimize cruise itineraries to help reduce fuel consumption.
The most effective way to save fuel in cruising is by lowering water resistance. MSC Cruises uses a TBT-free anti-fouling paint on the hulls of all of its ships to prevent hull fouling and substantially reduce drag.
Our voyage planning and monitoring system allows us to implement route analysis and track each of our ships with an update rate of one second and an accuracy of less than five meters. By monitoring technical data such as power and fuel consumption, we are effectively reducing CO2 emissions.
Each MSC cruise ship is designed and built with the best technology available and the entire MSC fleet features state-of-the-art technologies and equipment to protect marine and air environment.
Each ship in the MSC Cruises fleet has an environmental officer who is responsible for all environmental aspects on board. All recycling and waste management activities are carefully monitored and crew members dealing with recycling procedures as well as the handling, collection, sorting and management of garbage, receive training to operate in accordance with our procedures.
MSC Cruises has been forward-looking in the way it has built its ships and ready them for future rules and regulations. Our engines are already certified for the future NOX emissions standards, and are in compliance with latest IMO-MARPOL Annex VI requirement. In addition, some of our ships are equipped with exhaust cleaning systems, to reduce SOx emissions released from the main engine.
Our optimized ballast water management system also complies with the latest IMO guidelines aimed at minimizing environmental impact.
